HOW SYMAPTHY, EMPATHY, AND COMPASSION CAN HELP WORKPLACES SURVIVE THE PANDEMIC

We enter a crisis knowing only about 20 percent. The other 80 percent is discovery. With our current global crisis, there are questions only the virus can answer. However, we do embark with two hypotheses: (1) we need to change the game to win; (2) the business vaccine for the age of COVID is already here-it's just not widely implemented.

STAYING AT HOME IS A PRIVILEGE DURING CORONAVIRUS

COVID-19 has most of us locked down in our homes glued to our screens, either browsing social media or binge-watching Tiger King on Netflix to see what the fuss is all about. We listen to officials on the news constantly, many of them telling us that COVID-19 does not care about our class, religion, or race — the disease infects anybody it can. In theory, that is true; however, what I have seen and heard over the past couple of weeks shows that racial dynamics are not absent during this crisis. The virus may not care who you are, but society still does.

When I go out in Harvard Square, I see multiple individuals on the streets running in and out of Sweetgreen or Felipe’s to deliver food to customers who placed an order online…

ENVIRONMENT AND THE PANDEMIC PAUSE

As I click leave meeting on my yet another prolonged Zoom call, I couldn’t help but look out the window to relax my eyes that have been under immoderate strain lately. Outside the window I admire the John Hancock building shimmering the Boston skyline, but something seems bizarre in the New England air….

OF DANDELION. THEIR SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS

I had been up all night working on an article on global warming/climate change. The subject, serious, is draining, demanding, necessarily thought
provoking, disturbing. As the sun began to rise, showing its intentions by the
first light of a brand-new day, I wrote the last word... and went immediately into
the Cambridge Common for air, for light, to be freed from the sobering realities
of my midnight researches.

At this early hour, where the vestiges of night still prevailed, as if unwilling to
leave, there was no one present... and this distressed me, for I was in need of a
smile, a word or two of greeting, and (were I fortunate) a friend. For my night's work had been long and distressful, spent considering the vulnerabilities of Earth and the growing likelihood that our species, having had our way with this planet, was unwilling, perhaps unable, to do what is necessary to save our only, our collective home. Yes, I needed a friend... and solace.

HARVEY WEINSTEIN FINALLY IN JAIL

I recently finished a 10 week course on Women’s health and human rights taught by Anne Firth Murray of Stanford University. The former writer for the United Nations shed a light on the unjust world and how women have been treated like a third-class citizen in this male-chauvinist society. 

And then Harvey Weinstein, the famous American film producer’s, scandal was all over my Facebook wall to prove her right.

USA: United States for Aliens

They say “There are places on planet earth, where common sense doesn't apply.” Is the USA or the White House one among them?

Based on a survey by Live Science Staff; around 80 million American or 36% of the total American population believe UFOs are real. One in 10 respondents said that they have personally witnessed an alien spaceship. And if aliens were to invade the country sometime in the next four years, 65 percent of survey respondents said President Obama would be better suited for handling the invasion than any other president.

And yet there are some people who shell out heavy bucks and producer money on theaters to go see Will Smith fight the extraterrestrial in New York (Sorry Hollywood!)

FACEBOOK IS THE NEW YOUTUBE!

It was believed that Facebook prioritizes users experience before everything else, however these settings seem to be changing now. Everyone needs money or ways to increase their wealth. One of the most valued companies in the world is not far behind.

The latest update with the tech giant allows videos on Facebook to play with automatic sound by default, which could be beneficial for advertisers, thus help Facebook increase their wealth. 

While major brands are interested in more options to incorporate sound into video ads, the move is a fascinating choice for Facebook, as it can also be seen as a massive step backward in UX. Auto-play sound-on videos is frequently near the top of ad formats most detested by users.

This article is long overdue. It will be read with avidity, total agreement, and a rain of kudos for me from anyone who writes, sings, plays, paints, acts, mimes, speaks, or does deeds of daring- do on the flying trapeze. All of us, every single one of us, not only relishes the recognition of applause, not only craves it right down to the last clap, but lives for it... as the one essential element we must ….
